THE STORY – Chapter 5

Reflection by: Joel King

There is a lot packed into this chapter; the Ten Commandments, the Israelites idol worship, God’s wrath, the building of the Tabernacle, and God’s instructions for their worship of Him.  The one thing that sticks out to me the most is God’s personal presence.  Moses meeting with God and receiving direct communication, the evidence that Moses met with God as he glowed, and even the people seeing the cloud of God descending in to the Tabernacle.  All this reflects His desire to be with us, and our constant struggle with wanting to be with Him.

One Response to THE STORY – Chapter 5

  1. I love seeing glimpses Joshua before his role as spy, and well before his role as next leader.

There he is when Moses comes down from the mountain with the original tablets. “When Joshua heard the noise of the people shouting…”

After the LORD speaks to Moses in the tent of meeting, “Moses would return to the camp, but his young aide Joshua son of Nun did not leave the tent.”

I can’t even imagine what Joshua saw interning with Moses. But since I’ve cheated and read ahead, I think it’s interesting to think about Joshua’s faith, understanding, and leadership being formed and developed serving with Moses.

I’ve learned a great deal by spending time with more experienced, godly men. But perhaps what’s most valuable is what these two examples show: By spending time with Moses, Joshua spent a great deal of time in or near God’s presence.

And I’ve got to think that’s the biggest difference-maker of all.
